Drawing The Sword From The Bottom.
The second series in Evolve CQC for Ammara and Sinawali exercises are the Single Hand Striking Drills: The Closed Position, Single hand, Two and Three Strikes and introduces one of the major exercises of Ammara and Sinawali, the Drawing Of The Sword; From The Bottom.
The student learns the drawing, so as not to open their arms or open their cover, keeping their arms and hands close to the body as they strike. They also train not to pull the weapon/stick back past or outside their shoulder too far, opening their cover, which also gives a telegraphed move to an opponent, when over-winding for the next strike.
The forwards and backwards motioning hands and arms are also taught to not hit or bump into each other, destroying a students aim and power. These are also important exercises so that if the student uses two swords, two knives or two machetes, they do not strike and pull the opposite arm back, cutting oneself.
Through the exercises a student learns to feel where their arms are and through drilling repetition, the movements of striking and covering become an automatic response.
The training drill starts off in a closed position with two sticks, one under the other. The closed position is considered in actual fighting to be a transitory or transitional position and is not to be held for long periods. The stick held back while the other is striking, is considered the guard or guarding stick.
