It teaches through the methodology of teaching weapons first, before moving back to the baseline of the human being, being only barehanded and using one’s own physical resources as a weapon.

We learn to use tools first as a force multiplier for self defence, especially if confronted by a weapon wielding attacker, multiple opponents or attackers that use their larger physical advantages of height and weight, over the smaller individual.
