There are two basic Balintawak ready or fighting positions. The first basic Balintawak Ready Positions is the beginners or classical position with the stick out away from the body. The second is the more relaxed position with the baton lightly resting on the shoulder. The feet are positioned as described in the Basic Stances and Footwork. The empty or live hand is up at the face. The index finger slightly touching the lips and the palm covering the throat. If they attack your face or throat, your hand will be in the way, covering. If they attack your chest, your elbow and forearm can move to protect your body.
